Welcome to the African Humanities Conference 2023. The conference is hosted by the College of Humanities of the University of Dar es Salaam. The College of Humanities (CoHU) was born as a result of the splitting of the then college of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) in 2013 as part of the University of Dar es Salaam’s restructuring process. This restructuring divided CASS into two new campus colleges: the College of Humanities (CoHU) and the College of Social Sciences (CoSS). In addition to establishing new programmes that are responsive to the needs and aspirations of Tanzania, this restructuring aimed to increase organizational efficiency and unlock ceaseless opportunities for fostering growth in areas of study that were unable to thrive under the old bloated structure. As part of celebrating the ten years anniversary of the College of Humanities at the, University of Dar es Salaam , we would like to welcome delegates from around the world to be part of the African Humanities Conference 2023. The conference is guided by the theme Celebrating African Humanities for Inclusive Growth. As conference of its kind in the region and the continent, we anticipate a gathering of both established and early- career scholars from a wide range of humanities disciplines, including languages and communication, archaeology, creative industries, history, literature, philosophy and media studies from both within the region and abroad.
