Introduction

The B. A. (Music) programme is a three-year programme that aims at preparing students who will work skilfully and professionally in the area of music.


Objectives of the Programme

At the end of the programme, graduates shall be able to: a.Demonstrate a broad and comparative knowledge of the general scope of music as a subject and its different areas such as music theory, composition, ethnomusicology, music research and documentation. b.Demonstrate a critical understanding of the essential music theories, music elements and concepts of music and an awareness of the nature of music knowledge c.Showcase knowledge and skills in creating music, performing music, analysing music works, gathering music works for research and documentation and preserving musical traditions of Tanzania and the globe at large. d.Demonstrate competence in describing elements of music and perform scholarly research in music cultures.


Career Prospects

a.Entrepreneurial opportunities: Graduates of the programme can establish entrepreneurial prospects in various areas such as music entertainment companies, organizing events, consultancy for cultural and musical works. Graduates from this programme can be self-employed as pianists, guitarists, disc jockeys, singers/musicians, music composers, songwriters, music producers, music promoters and sound technicians. b.Employment opportunities: Graduates of the programme can consider employment opportunities in cultural event planning and organization, festival planning and organization, and publishing. They can be employed as music teachers, music managers, music consultant, researchers, educational entertainers, heritage experts, cultural experts and cultural officers. c.Leadership/Community-based opportunities: Graduates of the programme can also consider leadership roles or community-based roles where they can use their knowledge and skills in cultural and heritage development campaigns or as social campaign experts and analysts for their communities.
