Introduction

The B. A. (Theatre Arts) programme is a three-year programme that aims at preparing students who will work skilfully and professionally in the area of theatre arts.


Objectives of the Programme

At the end of the programme, graduates shall be able to: a.Demonstrate a broad and comparative knowledge of the general scope of theatre subject in all of its major categories including African theatre, World theatre, theory and criticism. b.Demonstrate a critical understanding of the essential and movements in in theatre and its role as an art form and develop an awareness of the nature of theatre knowledge and challenges and opportunities of the theatre industry in Tanzania, Africa and the world at large c.Showcase knowledge and skills in acting, play writing, dancing, set designing, production designing, dance choreography and directing, the analysis of theatre production processes, producing original works for stage performances, adopting works and staging them. d.Demonstrate competence in understanding varieties of theatre forms and movements around the world. e.Demonstrate critical thinking in both identifying and analysing problems and issues in relation to the theatre arts and the society at large.


Career Prospects

a.Entrepreneurial opportunities: Graduates of the programme can establish entrepreneurial prospects in various areas such as theatre companies, organizing drama performances and events, oratory performances, and consultancy for literary, cultural and theatre works. Graduates from this programme can be self-employed as actors, actresses, dancers, comedians, choreographers, playwrights, stage managers, directors of the stage and screen. b.Employment opportunities: Graduates of the programme can consider employment opportunities in cultural event planning and organization, festival planning and organization, and publishing. They can also be employed as heritage experts, cultural experts, theatre critics, film critics, editors, ghost-writers and producers. c.Leadership/Community-based opportunities: Graduates of the programme can also consider leadership roles or community-based roles where they can use their knowledge and skills in cultural and heritage development campaigns or as social campaign experts and analysts for their communities.
