Introduction

The B. A. (Archaeology and Geography) programme is a three-year programme aims to produce competent graduates who are capable of conducting geo-archaeological research, paleoenvironment, and interpreting archaeological materials, dispense rich history of human, plant and animal evolution, provide an account of the environmental and climatic history and contribute to better understanding of trends in cultural changes.


Objectives of the Programme

At the end of the programme, graduates shall be able to: a.Demonstrate knowledge of the past humans and environments through archaeological objects and geographical landscapes and their relevance for understanding current social, economic, political and environment concerns. b.Demonstrate skills to use range of evidence from prehistoric remains and geographical information to explore the past and application of key intellectual issues within the disciplines of archaeology, and geography, and in-depth knowledge of selected specialist areas within the disciplines. c.Demonstrate key transferable skills, for example archaeological field survey and recording, site sampling, laboratory and critical and analytical skills on the application of more advanced research methods such as geographical information systems (GIS) into the two disciplines of archaeology and geography. d.Show awareness of past environmental change, particularly with respect to understanding and contextualising past cultural change and the role of geography research for informing our understanding of current climate and environmental change issues. e.Demonstrate competence in archaeology and geographical skills and show key proficiencies for lifelong learning and career development, including independent research abilities, team work, written and oral expression.

a.Entrepreneurial opportunities: Graduates of the programme can establish entrepreneurial prospects in various areas as consultants for cultural and heritage preservation, archaeological site consultant, tourism experts, establish travel companies, establish cultural and heritage companies, and tour guide service companies. b.Employment opportunities: Graduates of the programme can consider employment opportunities in heritage institutions, museums, heritage management institutions and organizations, parks and conservation area, records and archives management institutions, and research institutions. They can be employed as environmental-archaeologists, landscape archaeologists, geo-archaeologists, palaeontologists, and archaeological heritage conservation personnel, surveyors, GIS experts, and cultural officers. c.Leadership/Community-based opportunities: Graduates of the programme can also consider leadership roles or community-based roles where they can use their knowledge and skills in cultural and heritage development campaigns or as social campaign experts and analysts for their communities.
